In the city, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) team on Saturday arrested two officers, including a retired officer of PWD (Public Works Department), red handed, taking a bribe of Rs 1.26 lakh. This amount of bribe was sought from a contractor in lieu of passing the bill of work done in the Police Housing Corporation. This action was taken against the bribe officers by a team formed under the leadership of Additional SP Chanchal Mishra. This stirred up the PWD department.
The accused caught taking bribe money is Ashok Kumar Verma. He is an XEN in PWD. Currently working on deputation in Police Housing Corporation under Police Headquarters. While the second accused is GS Chahar. He has retired from the post of AEN in PWD. Police Housing Corporation is currently employed at PHQ on contract.
The ACB had received a complaint that XEN Ashok Verma is demanding a hefty amount in bribe in lieu of passing the construction work bills done to the Police Housing Corporation. This amount was being sought through AEN Girraj Singh Chahar. Then Additional SP Chanchal Mishra got the complaint investigated.
Trap was created on Saturday if found right. The complainant arrived at a house in Jhotwara with a bribe amount. There the ACB team arrested GS Chahar and Ashok Verma. Recovered 1.26 lakh rupees from his possession. they are being interrogated.
