Barabanki / Uttar Pradesh, October 18: Another accused has been arrested in the case of rape and murder of a Dalit teenager in Barabanki. On Sunday, police said that after the confirmation of the teenager being a minor, a case has been registered on both the accused under the POCSO Act. Additional Superintendent of Police R.S. Gautam said that 21-year-old accused Rishikesh Singh was given information by his 19-year-old partner Dinesh Gautam, on the basis of which he was arrested. At the same time, the arrest of Dinesh Gautam had already taken place.
The ASP further said that the date of birth found from the primary school in the victim’s village revealed that she was a minor, hence the accused have also been charged under the POCSO Act. Earlier, the police had said that the victim is 18 years old. The ASP said, “Dinesh has confessed to his crime in questioning. Both the accused had carried out the crime in a planned manner.” On the day of the incident at Satrikh police border in Barabanki district, Rishikesh allegedly told Dinesh that the girl had gone to the fields alone.

The girl’s father told that the girl went to the fields, but did not return home after that. She was later found dead by her family members. It was confirmed by the post-mortem that the girl was raped before strangulation. The victim’s relative Dinesh Gautam was arrested on Friday night. The case came to light when a 19-year-old Dalit girl was gang-raped and vandalized in Hathras district, which she died a few days later. Anger spread across the country over this.
