Mother Durga

According to the Hindu calendar, Sharadiya Navaratri begins with the antipada of Ashwin Shukla Paksha and ends on Navami Tithi. The day of Vijayadashami i.e. Dussehra is celebrated on its next day. There are different beliefs about celebrating Navratri and Durga Puja. It is believed that Goddess Durga killed the demon named Mahishasura, hence the festival of Navaratri is celebrated as a symbol of the victory of good over evil. At the same time, according to other popular belief, Goddess Durga comes to her maternal home on these nine days of the year, so it is celebrated with great pomp as Durga Puja.
