Expressing concern over the online rummy game, members in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday demanded that it should be banned immediately as ‘this way of earning money easily’ is attracting a large number of youth in its net. The Speaker of the Upper House M Venkaiah Naidu termed it as a matter of grave concern and said that the Law Minister should pay attention to it.
BJP member KC Ramamurthy raised this issue through a special mention, saying, ‘The trend of online rummy is increasing and a large number of youth are falling prey to it. Its very attractive advertisements are given and people are caught in the trap. He said, ‘Criminal gangs are associated with Rummy online and according to an estimate, the business of more than 200 crores is going on. People are stripped of their blood and sweat by showing a dream of making easy money.
Ramamurthy said, “These days the threat posed by the Kovid-19 epidemic is also increasing its size. Looking at the future of the youth, it is necessary to stop it. Chairman Naidu termed it as a matter of grave concern and said, “Although it is a matter of state government, the Law Minister should pay attention to it given its seriousness.”
