Story of Karva Chauth
In ancient times, Chandravati had seven brothers. Being the only sister, all the brothers loved her more than her life. On marriage, the brothers married Chandravati into a good family. Chandravati observed the first Karvachauth vow after marriage. On returning from work in the evening, the brothers asked the sister to have food with them as well. Chandravati said that she will eat only after the moon comes out, because she has kept the fast of Karva Chauth. The brothers thought that Chandravati would be hungry for a day. In pampering, he went away and lit a fire in the bush behind a tree, and felt the moon come out from afar. They immediately came home and told the sister that the moon had come out.
The sister, believing her words, passed the fast by offering Argh to the moon. Just then, the news of her husband’s health became very bad. Thorns emerge from his body. Chandravati thought that I have not committed any crime, then what punishment am I getting. When he asked Panditji, Panditji said that there must have been some disturbance in the worship. Other story of Karva Chauth
Karwa was a Bhilani woman. There was a curse on him for being tarnished. Karva used to worship Shri Ganesha on every Chaturthi. Once, while praying to Ganesha, he asked how I felt the curse of being tarnished and how I would get rid of it. Ganeshji told that after the fast, you took food yourself without feeding your husband first. You are cursed by this and your husband is suffering from leprosy. If you want to get rid of this dosha, then you have to worship your husband while fasting on the fourth day of Krishna Paksha of Kartik month. Only then you will get rid of this defect and your husband will also be completely healthy.
Karva fasted in the manner described by Shri Ganeshji. On this, Shri Ganeshji was very pleased and he blessed Karva free of guilt and said that in the future, I will protect the suhaag of Suhagin who will worship you before worshiping me. Since then, this tradition has been going on.
