Karva Chauth, the festival of unbroken good fortune, is celebrated with pomp in Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. The beginning of this fast starts with a sargi before sunrise. Sargi includes sweets, mathris, sevaiyan, firni, dry fruits, coconut water, puri or parathas, juices, etc. After eating sargi, women keep fast anhydrous throughout the day and open the fast after observing the moon at night. According to religious beliefs, the moon is the factor of age, happiness and peace, so worshiping the moon blesses women with a happy married life and the husband’s life is long.
