There are many stories related to the festival of Navratri, in which it is told that Goddess has incarnated again and again to end many demons. It is said that a monster named Mahishasura got a boon from Brahmadev that no god and demon can conquer him. Only a woman can finish it. All the gods troubled by the terror of Mahishasura sought help from the trinity, after which all the gods created Goddess Durga for her destruction, known as Shakti and Parvati. Goddess Durga attacked Mahishasura for nine days and killed her on the tenth day. The festival of Navratri and Durga Puja is celebrated in this festival. The tenth day is known as Vijayadashami. According to another popular belief associated with Navratri, Shardiya Navratri was started by Lord Rama. In order to conquer Lanka, Lord Rama first worshiped Shakti for nine days, starting Sharadiya Navratri on the sea and then on the tenth day, he killed Ravana and conquered Lanka. After worshiping Goddess Durga for nine days in Sharadiya Navaratri, the festival of Dussehra i.e. Vijayadashami is celebrated on the tenth day and Ravana is burnt.
