BCCI President Sourav Ganguly said on Sunday that during the IPL to be held in the UAE in September, there will be a women’s T20 League or Challenger Series. He did not disclose its schedule. However, a source close to the board told the news agency that like last year, this time also the last phase of IPL will be a Women’s Challenger Series between 1-10 November. Before this, women’s team camp can also be started.
The Women’s T20 Challenge was first played in 2018. Then there was a single match, in which the Supernovas defeated the Trail Blazers. In 2019 too, the BCCI conducted 4 T20 matches between three women’s teams during the IPL. Then the third team Velocity was entered. This year, the IPL will be held in the UAE from 19 September to 8 November. However, the schedule has not been finalized yet.
Women’s will play our team in IPL: Ganguly
Ganguly has made it clear that the women’s IPL will also be fitted in the schedule of the Men’s T20 League. He said before the Governing Council meeting that I can confirm that the Women’s IPL will also take place, in which our National Team will also play.
In the current situation we cannot put players in danger
The former Indian captain also said that a camp would also be organized for the women players in the BCCI’s Central Contract List, which had to be canceled due to the situation arising due to Corona in the country. Ganguly said that we cannot put the health of any of our cricketers at risk. Be it either men or women cricketers. It would be dangerous to do so.
He said that Bengaluru’s National Cricket Academy is closed due to Corona. But we have a plan. We will definitely organize a women’s team camp. I can tell you this. The BCCI cricket operations team is working on a schedule that allows the women’s team to play ODI series against South Africa and West Indies before the ODI World Cup in New Zealand next year.
