New Delhi, 17 September: Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan said on Thursday that the coronavirus vaccine will be available in the country by early next year. This comment comes at a time when the number of cases in India has crossed 50 lakhs and the countrymen are eagerly waiting for the vaccine. Harshvardhan said in the Rajya Sabha, “Like other countries, India is also trying for the vaccine. The trial of the 3 vaccine candidate is in different stages. A group of experts under the guidance of the Prime Minister is looking into it. We hope that The vaccine will be available in India by early next year. “
The two vaccines being developed by Zydus Cadila and Bharat Biotech have completed the first phase of testing. At the same time, Serum Institute of India has started testing again after getting approval from Drug Controller General of India.

Covishield is an India partner in the manufacturing of the vaccine candidate, developed jointly by the Jenner Institute of Oxford University and AstraZeneca. Pune-based firm SII is conducting trials at 17 test sites in the country. In addition, the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) and Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd. have agreed to cooperate on the distribution of Sputnik-5 vaccine in India.
Sputnik was developed by Russia’s Gmelya Scientific Research Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology and RDIF, which was registered on 11 August. A statement released by RDIF said, “RDIF will supply 100 million doses of the vaccine to Dr. Reddy’s.”
