Case of currency smuggling filed against Swapna Suresh and Sarit P.S.


The Customs Department has registered a second case against the accused in the Kerala gold smuggling case, Swapna Suresh and Sarit P.S. An official said on Saturday that a case of currency smuggling has been registered against both. M. Shivshankar, former Principal Secretary of Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, was shifted to Thiruvananthapuram Medical College on Saturday. He was admitted to a private hospital on Friday after experiencing discomfort.

He has been summoned by the Customs Department for questioning in the Kerala gold smuggling case. He has been admitted to ICU. Customs officials are also present in the hospital. The Customs Department on Saturday presented a report related to the case before the special court in Kochi. According to the report, Swapna Suresh sent US $ 1,90,000 (about Rs. 140 million) from Kerala for foreign smuggling.

The Customs Department has stated in its report that Suresh used his ID card from the UAE consulate to illegally carry money. The Kerala gold smuggling case is related to smuggling of gold through diplomatic channels in the state. The case is being investigated by the National Investigation Agency, Enforcement Directorate and the Customs Department.
