Canada: Punjabi husband arrested for killing wife in Toronto

Toronto: A 64-year-old Punjabi man has been arrested for the alleged murder of his wife in Brampton city of Toronto. Jarnail Randhawa (64) has been arrested for the murder of his wife Dalbir Kaur Randhawa. Wife’s age was also 64 years. The police said that he would be charged with second degree murder. The murder took place on Wednesday and after a call to the police, it was found that an unconscious woman was lying on the footpath of the city. On reaching the spot, the police found that the woman had sustained serious injuries at several places. She was identified as Dalbir Kaur Randhawa. Paramedics tried their best to save the life of the victim, but she died on the spot.

After investigation, the police found her husband Jarnail Randhawa as the prime suspect and arrested him. Brampton is home to the largest concentration of Punjabi community in Canada. In fact, Indo-Canadians make up about a quarter of the city’s population of about 700,000.

Hong Kong, June 12 : 24-year-old Chou was greeted by a group of journalists after leaving the Tai Lam Center for Women. She got out of the jail van without commenting and went to sit in a private car. A small group of supporters were present at the spot, clearly demonstrating the impact of the government’s threats of imprisonment.

Beijing imposed a tough national security law in the region last year, after which the government has warned of jailing those found violating the law. This law was brought to suppress the voices of dissent in the formerly British colony after demonstrations in favor of anti-government and democracy in Hong Kong. The new law led to the arrest of prominent activists of democracy, including Joshua Wong and Jimmy Lai, who are serving prison sentences. Others have taken refuge abroad.
