The NIA raided the Noida Sector-78 house of Honey Babu, a professor of Delhi University and arrested in the Bhima-Koregaon case. The team of the investigating agency reached Honey Babu’s house on Sunday morning. This raid of the team lasted for about an hour. A close aide of Honey Babu was also present with the investigating agency which the team had brought with them.
Professor Honey Babu lives in a flat of Hyde Park Society located in Sector-78 of MT Kotwali Sector-49. The NIA team arrived at the society on Tuesday morning to investigate. The team was present here for about one and a half hours. During the time when the NIA team was present here, the society had banned the entry and exit of anyone inside the said tower.
NIA team reached with a close professor
A close aide of the professor also remained with the team during the investigation. On the other hand, the arrival of NIA team in the society created an atmosphere of chaos. The professor has been accused of spreading Maoist ideology. In September last year, Pune police of Maharashtra reached her house for investigation.
The NIA alleges that Honey Babu Mussaliar Vittil Thariyal, associate professor in the English Department of DU, promoted Naxalite activities and Maoist ideology in the Bhima Koregaon-Elgar Parishad case and was a ‘co-conspirator’ in the case. Babu is also a member of the ‘Committee for the Defense and Release of GN Saibaba’. Former DU professor Saibaba is serving a life sentence on charges of involvement with the Maoists.
This is the case
This case is from the year 2017. The ethnic violence reportedly took place after an allegedly inflammatory speech at the Elgar Parishad organized by Kabir Kala Manch in Shaniwarwada, Pune. This resulted in considerable loss of life and property. Later demonstrations took place in Maharashtra over the entire matter. Apart from Honey Babu, 12 other people have also been arrested in the case.
